Assembly Video
Assembling with the help of the video guide is the recommended method to reduce questions or issues with assembly.
Preassembly Tips and Advice
- If you are uncomfortable with bike mechanics, it is best to have it assembled by a bike shop or expert.
- Carefully remove ONLY the packing zip ties, do not cut any wires, cables, or zip ties that are used to route wires.
- There is a plastic spacer supporting the front brake caliper between the brake pad area. Note that squeezing the brake lever without the spacer or bike rotor installed will clamp the pistons closed. It is recommended to save the spacer to use anytime you remove the front wheel.
- Avoid touching the brake rotors with your fingers. The natural oil present on your hands will contaminate the rotors, reduce braking efficacy and create a loud whining pitch when braking.
- Apply grease to the pedal threads and seat post before installation
- Note: there is additional hardware included to install a passenger kit accessory (available on our parts page), should you decide to utilize the dual passenger capable rear rack.
Assembly Basics
Left Pedal
- The left pedal is reverse threaded and must be installed on the left side of the bike (without chainring). To install it, properly align in the left crank insert and rotate counterclockwise by hand. If threaded correctly, it will not require any force to hand tighten. Once hand tight, use a wrench on the flat edge of the pedal insert to tighten fully.Right Pedal
- The right pedal is standard threaded and must be installed on the right side of the bike (with chainring). To install it, properly align in the left crank insert and rotate counterclockwise by hand. If threaded correctly, it will not require any force to hand tighten. Once hand tight, use a wrench on the flat edge of the pedal insert to tighten fully.Handlebars
- You will need to orient the handlebars before installing. The display and throttle will be on the left side (without chainring) and the shifter on the right side (with chainring). Tighten the bolts in a star pattern and do not overtighten.Brake Levers
- The levers should be facing forward and angled slightly towards the ground in order to comfortably squeeze them while maintaining good grip and control on handle bars while riding.Display
- Align the display wire before connecting. Line up both the arrows to avoid damaging or bending the delicate metal pins.
Unlocking Class 3:
Your bicycle will arrive in Class 2 mode, which limits the top speed on PAS and throttle to 20mph. Unlocking to class 3 will enable the PAS to provide power up to 28mph and throttle power to 20mph.
1. Settings Screen
To start, enter the settings screen in your display by holding the plus and minus buttons. Once in the menu, use the display buttons to navigate through the menu. The (+) and (-) buttons scroll through the menu options. The center button is used to select. Select "Display Setting" and scroll down to select the speed limit option using the center button. The (+/-) buttons will update the speed limit setting to either "20 mph" (class 2), or "28 mph" (class 3). Once the desired speed limit setting is chosen, press the center/select button to update the setting. Speed limit not listed in Display Settings? Continue to step 2.
2. Navigate to "Advanced Settings"
Using the +/- buttons, scroll down to the "advanced settings" option and use the center/select button to select "advanced settings". The system will then prompt you for a password. The default password is "1212"
3. Selecting Speed Settings
Once inside the Advanced Settings, use the (-) button to scroll down to "Next_Page" and press the center/select button.
Once on the next page select the speed limit option using the center button. The (+/-) buttons will update the speed limit setting to either "20 mph" (class 2), or "28 mph" (class 3). Once the desired speed limit setting is chosen, press the center/select button to update the setting.
4. Saving The Speed Limit Settings
Once the speed limit setting has been updated, use the display buttons to return back to the main menu and exit. Once you exit the main menu, this will save the updated speed limit setting for future use. This completes the process of changing the bike to Class 3 mode.
Post Assembly Tuning and Safety Check
Index your derailleur and verify hanger is straight
- Failure to index your derailleur and set the limit screws may cause damage to your rear wheel, motor cable, motor, derailleur, or derailleur hanger.Ensure your brakes are adjusted and bedded
- Brake calipers must be adjusted to perform up to specification. Note that new brake pads need to go through the bedding process and may make noise when braking until bedded.Double check your cable routing
- Matching cable routing as shown in the assembly video will reduce stress on wiring and avoid out-of-warranty damage to your ebike componentsAdjust your fenders
- Rubbing fenders is common. Adjusting your fenders will ensure no noises or contact with the tire during operation.Rift Display
- Learn about your display features and functions.
