If you feel your e-bike's kickstand does not hold your bike firmly, or if your kickstand feels loose and rattles, the issue is usually related to either:

1. The kickstand height is not being set correctly, which can cause the bike to lean too far or stand too upright

2. The internal nut is loose inside the adjustable lower portion of the kickstand.

3. The kickstand is cracked, threads stripped, or missing parts and needs to be replaced.

All can be fixed at home with basic tools and/or replacement parts.

Adjusting Kickstand Height

A properly adjusted kickstand helps keep your bike stable when parked.

Step 1:

Locate the adjuster bolt on the lower sliding portion of the kickstand.

Step 2:

Loosen the bolt slightly to allow the lower portion to slide and set the height:

  • Shorter = Bike leans more and is more stable.
  • Longer = Bike stands more upright.

Step 3:

Tighten the bolt firmly once the height feels stable.

Step 4:

Test the bike on level ground to confirm stability.

Note: The Roadster V3 does not have a bolt, but it uses a button that can be pressed to loosen and adjust the kickstand height.

Fixing a Loose Kickstand Nut

Pro tip: Removing the kickstand from the bike makes performing the kickstand repair outlined below easier.

Step 1:

Remove the adjuster bolt.

Step 2:

Slide the adjustable portion off the kickstand.

Step 3:

Locate the elliptical metal insert with the threaded hole shown above and orient as shown below.

Step 4:

Carefully slide in the elliptical metal piece to match up with the kickstand insert. Reseat the washer and bolt in the kickstand insert.

Step 5:

Slide the adjustable portion back on and tighten the bolt. When you tighten the bolt, the seated nut becomes an anchor for the adjustable portion.

Replacing a Damaged Kickstand

Kickstands live a hard life and can be damaged due to overloading the bike, mounting the bike while the kickstand is down, or just general wear and tear from use. Luckily kickstands are fairly standard throughout the bicycle industry and replacements can easily be found from local shops or third party online retailers.

The only thing you will need to know to be able to find a compatible kickstand for your bike is the distance between the mounting bolts. Most of our bikes use kickstands with 40mm bolt spacing as shown below but 18mm came on some models as well.

Note: The stock mounting bolt size for the kickstand is M6x25mm, while the adjuster screw size is M5x10mm.

Here is a link to a recommended replacement kickstand that is compatible with all Ride1Up bikes originally equipped with a kickstand:

When removing or replacing the kickstand, be mindful of the position and orientation of the motor cable as it passes by the kickstand. When reassembling the kickstand to the bike, make sure to keep the motor cable in the same position it was in before removing the kickstand.
